in front of the BOARD

I read an article in this morning’s Courier News about Elgin looking to require new construction and addition projects to go in front of an Architectural Board for review.  Would work great for those projects that should fit in.  But, what does that mean??  What happens when someone wants to be different?

Is different bad or good?

  1. As I see it, it is a challenge for a good architect. If they have strict guidelines to follow, it is the job of the architect to come up with something different and unique while still following the guidelines.

Living in my neighborhood, where my house looks like a lot of the other houses, different it good. I not talking about the cookie cutter comunities either. My bi-level looked like every other bi-level, that is until you got your hands on it.

That being said, I have see nice new houses that look ridiculous because they look nothing like the houses around them.
