jiberish

So, I just overheard a definition on Word Girl that I found really intriguing.

Well, it wasn’t as much of how they defined “Jiberish”, but how they used it in their example.

A person was asked to describe their business in five words. That’s all…five.

Can you do that?

did you hear

Hey, wouldn’t it be great if you could know what people are saying about you? Good or bad??

Well, you can and it’s really easy to setup.

Google can send you an “alert” on what it’s hearing about whatever topic you like…even you!

I use it to listen for my name and my company’s name. Then, once a day, I get an e-mail with whatever it finds.

Check it out for yourself!

be heard

the best breakfast ever.

Have you ever been out to dinner, had a great meal, walked out and grabbed your cell phone just to stare at it? Asking yourself, “Who should I phone first?” I mean really be taken back, all deer-in-the-headlights, because you wanted all your friends and family to know about this awesome restaurant, that’s priced great…

That’s what social media is all about.  Let me change things up a bit with that scenario.

What if you left the place, grabbed the blackberry, logged onto facebook, updated your status giving a quick blurb. Jumped over to brightkite, checking in at this fine place, then jumped over to twitter to do some more of the same and ending your musing in front of your computer, giving a nice detailed update on your blog.

Sounds crazy? Maybe. Will there be more and more tools to share your thoughts and life with everyone, I’ll bet on it.

So, a decision has to be made. Do you start getting your feet wet now, or miss out on that great meal??

I’ll start to share my thoughts about what I use.

But, please share yours, too!

real duct tape

The great people at Lifehacker put up this terrific post on “Nuclear” Duct Tape.

I don’t know about you, but I love duct tape. I use it for those “uncoventional” times when nothing else will do. Lost a bolt on the snow blower, duct tape to the rescue! Can’t quite get all those scraps to behave in the trash, you betcha duct tape will.

What are some unique ways you’ve used duct tape?

Fine Homebuilding

Fine Homebuilding Magazine (Love it)

You know it’s coming. In another few weeks, we’ll start climbing out of our winter slumber. Hammer in hand, not sure what to hit first, you just know sawdust needs to be a flyin’. Please, I beg you, think before you have at it.

If it involves a chainsaw on a pole, ask yourself, “Am I qualified to use this tool?” You know, there are some great craftsmen who are more than able to do the job at a reasonable price.

I know I’m not perfect and not every job requires a professional. But, please be careful and ask someone first!

Our building departments are here for a reason. They are here to help.

So, always ask if you need a permit!

Can anyone share their own weekend warrior stories?

flying the friendly skies

Now I’m not going to name any names, but when did flying get so bad?

I recently visited some family and had the pleasure to take a plane ride. I love to fly. I started flying later in life, during college. I used to get dressed up, shirt and tie, to catch a flight.

Back then, everyone was nice and respectful, not just the airline people, but even the passengers.

This last round trip was anything but nice.  We had problems with the flight down and more troubles with the flight back.

Coming home, we had a security person tell my wife that my two year old should be leashed! Say what??

And, am I missing something? Getting on my architectural soap box, has the airports gotten more and more rundown? You know, just like your home, carpeting needs to be replaced and walls need to be painted every once and a while!

Well, I feel that no matter how much you complain, you still need them more than they need you. So, see ya next flight!

Any bad flying stories you want to share?

Forgotten Chicago Site

Forgotten Chicago has to be up there on my favorite’s list.

First, it’s all about Chicago…the REAL Chicago. Beautiful buildings and structures that we’re losing at an alarming rate.

So please, check out this site and hopefully you’ll see the true beauty of our fine City.
